Requirements for the major in Creative Writing: Students may complete a major in Creative Writing with 40 semester hours in 10 courses. Required courses include CRWT 2000 (Introduction to Reading and Writing Fiction), CRWT 2100 (Introduction to Reading and Writing Poetry), ENGL 2010 (British and American Literary History I), ENGL 3000 (Literary and Cultural Theory), CRWT 4900 (Senior Seminar in Creative Writing), either ENGL 2020 (British and American Literary History II) OR an upper level literature course in English, and any two of these: CRWT 3000 (Advanced Fiction Writing), CRWT 3100 (Advanced Poetry Writing), and CRWT 3200 (Creative Non-Fiction). If a course in playwriting or screen-writing is offered, that may substitute for one of the two courses require in the areas of Advanced Writing of Poetry or Fiction or Creative Non-Fiction.
Requirements for a minor in Creative Writing: Students not majoring in English or Communication Studies may elect a minor in creative writing by completing the following courses (20 semester hours): ENGL 2000 (Introduction to Literary Studies); CRWT 4900 (senior seminar in creative writing); and three of the following, to include an introductory and advanced course in one genre:
