
Filipino-American pianist Jovanni-Rey V. de Pedro enjoys a musical career that has brought him to concert venues and institutions across North America, Asia, Australia, and Europe. Recent engagements have included concerto appearances with the Vienna Residenz Orchester (Mozart K. 466) and the Santa Monica Symphony (Brahms No. 2), solo recitals at London's St. Martin-in-the-Fields, and a tour of Ireland performing Messiaen's "Quartet for the End of Time."
Winner of the Boesendorfer Stipendium and the City of Vienna's Cultural Affairs Department Sonderpreis, Jovanni has also received awards at the United States Open Music Competition, Pacific Piano Competition in Canada, Ibiza Competition in Spain, and the Beethoven Society of Europe's Intercollegiate Piano Competition in England. Upon graduation from Trinity College of Music, he received the Isabelle Bond Gold Medal for Performance Excellence.
An avid researcher and pedagogue, Jovanni has presented at conferences for the Music Teachers National Association, College Music Society, European Piano Teachers Association/World Piano Teachers Association in Serbia and the Australasian Piano Pedagogy Association. He has served on the teaching staff at City University London and the New Ross Chamber Music Festival (Ireland), and is currently on the piano faculty at Interlochen Summer Arts Camp in Michigan, and a visiting instructor of piano at Munster Music Academy in Ireland. Jovanni is the Student Liaison for The Carnegie Hall Royal Conservatory Achievement Program (TAP) and the co-founder and advisor of the MTNA Collegiate Piano Pedagogy Symposium.
A California native, Jovanni spent six years under scholarship from the ASCAP/Leiber & Stoller Foundations at the Vienna Conservatory where he completed his the Konzert Diplom with distinction (auszeichnung). He holds a master's degree from Trinity College of Music in London, and a doctoral degree in piano pedagogy and performance from the University of Michigan. He has worked with Robert Ward, Aries Caces, Gerhard Geretschlaeger, Yonty Solomon, Mikhail Kazakevich, Deniz Gelenbe, and Louis Nagel, and has coached with Menahem Pressler, Martino Tirimo, Rudolf Buchbinder, Bryce Morrison and Pierre Laurent Aimard.
Dr. de Pedro is currently Visiting Assistant Professor of Music at Millsaps College where he teaches applied piano, class piano and piano pedagogy.
