ICAPThe Second Week (in Yucatan):

During the second week, students will travel to Millsaps' Center for Business and Culture in Yucatan.  Located in Merida, the capital of the State of Yucatan, the Center offers an excellent opportunity for students to immerse themselves in the culture of vibrant and continually developing region.

Here students will visit governmental authorities discussing the culture and business of Yucatan.  Students will also study the history and culture of the area by visiting Millsaps' Kaxil Kiuic Biocultural Reserve, which incorporates an excellently preserved major Maya city.  The group will travel to Uxmal to see a fully developed archaeological site and visit a preserved hacienda and henequen plantation. Students will visit the Port of Progresso, one of the world's largest piers to discuss import/exports from the region and to discuss the environmental concerns of development and preservation.

Why else should you attend?

In their free time, students will enjoy a variety of fun activities each day. During their first week at Millsaps, the group will experience the best that both Jackson and Millsaps have to offer through trips to bowling, movie night in Millsaps' Bowl, etc. While in Yucatan, they will have the unique opportunity to take part in the culture of Mexico by venturing to the market, swimming in cenotes (underground lakes), visiting the local beaches, and exploring other parts of this vibrant and safe area of Mexico.
