JACKSON – Sophomore Blake
Martinez led four Millsaps
scorers in double figures with 15 points off the bench and the Majors
shot 52 percent from the floor as they pushed their home unbeaten streak
out to 13 games with an 80-60 victory over Colorado
College.
With the win Friday night, Millsaps hit the 18-win plateau for the second
consecutive season, improving to 18-3 overall and 9-2 in the SCAC West.
The Tigers remained winless on the year in the defeat, falling to 0-20
overall and 0-11 in league action.
The Majors opened the game on a 22-6 run over the first 6:36 of the
game and never looked back, knocking down four of their first five 3-pointers
and 9-of-12 shots overall for a red-hot 75 percent shooting from the
floor. They finished the half at just under 61 percent from the floor
as they enjoyed a 50-22 halftime lead.
Colorado College outscored Millsaps 38-30 in the second half to cut
the final margin to 20, with the Majors allowing a handful of bench players
to see minutes late in the game.
A key stat in the game was turnovers, as Millsaps turned 24 Tiger turnovers
into 40 points on the offensive end, while committing just 11 of its
own. The Majors also did a fantastic job of distributing the ball, notching
24 assists on the night.
Lance Jacobs led all scorers with 18 points for the Tigers, while
senior Kyle Keefe added 13 points and nine rebounds and Austin Chapman
had 11 off a trio of 3s.
Martinez led a balanced attack for the Majors with 15 points off 6-of-10
shooting, followed by Rodney Rogan and Chad
Songy with 13 apiece and
Edrick Montgomery with 12. Allen
Odum also dished out a game-high six
dimes to lead all players.
Winners of three-straight after dropping a pair in Texas, Millsaps will
close out a four-game homestand on Sunday against Austin College. Tip-off
is slated for 3 p.m.
