Seniors Treated to Final Home Win in Regular Season Finale
Millsaps completes home slate 14-0, moves on to SCAC Tournament

February 23, 2008

JACKSON – In front of a near capacity crowd during the 2nd Annual "Take A Kid to the Game" Day, graduating seniors Deonte Oscar, Lorenzo Bailey, Allen Odum, Rodney Rogan and Edrick Montgomery combined to score 47 points in their home finales to lift Millsaps to a 78-55 win over visting Hendrix College and complete a perfect home slate at 14-0.

Millsaps moved to 22-3 overall and 13-2 in the SCAC, becoming just the fourth team in men's basketball history to eclipse 22 wins, while winning the SCAC West outright by four games over Trinity (Texas) who finished league play at 9-6.

Millsaps scored 26 points off 29 Warrior turnovers and led 36-24 at the break despite being outshot from the floor 46 to 39 percent. Hendrix's David Foley hit a leaning, 3-pointer from close to halfcourt as the buzzer sounded to help stop a 10-3 Millsaps run.

The Majors pulled away in the second period on 55 percent shooting and led by as many as 27 with 2:40 remaining before closing out the victory. Bailey went a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor with three 3s and scored 13 of his 15 in the period.

Rogan led a balanced scoring attack with 16 points, followed Bailey with 15, Montgomery with 14 and sophomore Cameron Varnado with 10. Eleven different Majors scored on the afternoon and junior Chad Songy dished out a game-high seven assists to lead Millsaps to a 13-2 regular season in SCAC play.

The Warriors were led by SCAC Player of the Year candidate, Andrew King, who scored 14 points and added seven rebounds and Cal Rose who chipped in 10 points.

Millsaps will own the No. 1 West seed in the upcoming SCAC Tournament beginning on Friday and will play the No. 4 East seed, Rhodes College, at 6 p.m. in Conway, Ark.

The Majors will likely have to win out or advance to the championship to earn a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Live audio and video ($10) will be available during the weekend compliments of Southwestern University. Click here to go to tournament central.
