Davern Williams
Defensive Line Coach
First Season
Troy University, 2003
After spending two
seasons at Great South Athletic Conference member Huntingdon College
as the defensive line coach, former college standout and NFL player
Davern
Williams
joins
the
Millsaps staff in 2008 to take over duties as the defensive line coach
on a fairly young unit.
Before playing in the pros, Williams was a three-year standout at Troy
University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in sports and
fitness management and recorded 163 total tackles, 6.0 sacks, 30 quarterback
pressures, 19 tackles-for-loss, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery
and an interception. As a sophomore, Williams earned All-Sunbelt Conference
HM honors, while as a junior, he tallied a career-high
61 tackles. Williams began his collegiate career at Auburn, where he
appeared in two games in 1998.
A native of Montgomery, Ala., Williams prepped at Jefferson Davis High
School where he helped the Vols to a 1996 6A state title. He was a three-time
all-metro selection, two-time all-state performer and the Montgomery
Advertiser’s 6A Player of the Year as a senior. Following his
senior campaign, Williams played in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star
Football
Classic. He also participated in basketball and track.
The Majors lost two senior starters from the defensive line a year ago
and will have to count on newly–hired Williams to continue the
success.
