After five years
in the state of Texas at his alma mater and a pair of high school’s,
Jon Long will begin his first career collegiate coaching job as he
takes over offensive
line duties for the Majors in 2008.
Prior to joining the Millsaps
staff in February, Long served two seasons at Odessa High School (2006-07)
where he handled the defensive line and
was the strength and conditioning coach. Before his time at Odessa HS,
Long spent two seasons coaching defensive tackles at Andrew’s High
School (2004-05) and one season at his alma mater, Sul Ross State (2003)
as the assistant O-Line coach and assistant strength and conditioning
coach.
Long graduated with a degree in kinesiology in 2003 from Sul Ross State
and received his master’s in education in 2004 where he was also
a three-year letterman on the O-Line at OG and C and two-year
starter.
“I’m excited about my new position at Millsaps and to get
the opportunity to work with great players and a coaching staff is very
rewarding. I hope to help continue the success that’s been established
the previous two seasons and to get my first chance to compete for a
conference championship.”
Long is 1 of 4 new coaches
on the Majors’ staff in 2008.
