In
1900 Millsaps College participated in its first intercollegiate contest,
falling to Tulane University 35-0 in football. Following
that season,
the College would ban intercollegiate competition for its students until
the year 1910.
In 1968 the Millsaps College Hall of Fame was created
to honor
those student-athletes who have successfully mixed academics with athletics.
The
first class included five members: Gaines
Crawford, Claude Passeau, Sam Vick, Charles Ward and H.G. Zimonski. Since
then, 175 former Majors and Lady Majors have had their names
added to
this prestigous list.
In 1981, the Hall of Fame committee added the Distinguished Athletic Service
Award which honors an individual who has made
significant contributions to the betterment of Millsaps Athletics. This
year's award was presented to Frank Ezelle for his outstanding dedication
to Millsaps athletics.
The 2007 Hall of Fame Class was inducted at the Leggett Center on Homecoming
Saturday, October 27, at 10 a.m. and honored along with former Hall of
Fame members, friends and family.
