NOTRE
DAME, Ind. – After helping lead the Majors’ defense
to a school-record best seven shutouts and posting a solid 3.80
GPA in the classroom, senior defender Julia Fell has been tabbed
by ESPN The Magazine as a Second Team Academic All-District VI
selection.
A senior majoring
in Classics, Fell started and played in 15 of 18 games for the
Majors this season, coming up from the defensive
backline to net her first career goal in a 6-0 win over the University
of Dallas to go along with one assist.
An NSCAA Academic
All-Region Honorable Mention and an Academic All-SCAC selection
in 2006,
Fell has twice been named the team’s
defensive MVP and team co-captain, portraying the ideal role of
a Millsaps student-athlete by successfully mixing academics and
athletics.
Fell also becomes
the first Millsaps soccer player to earn Academic
All-District VI recognition and will have her
name thrown back into the hat to receive Academic All-America consideration
which will be released on Tuesday, Nov. 20.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important
reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on
a 4.0 scale) for his/her career.
The award is voted upon by more
than 2,000 members of the College Sports Information Directors
of America (CoSIDA).
