Wolfpack Extend Streak to Six in 3-0 Win over Millsaps
Majors fall to 2-11 on the year, head to Pensacola, Fla. this weekend

September 20, 2007

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Junior Mary Seals moved into fifth place all-time on the Loyola career kill list with a match-high 18 kills and the Wolfpack extended their winning streak to six games with a 3-0 (31-29, 33-31, 30-19) victory over Millsaps Thursday night in The Den.

In Game 1, Loyola-New Orleans (7-4) survived eight unanswered points from Millsaps that cut the lead to 24-21 as Danielle Posey led the Wolfpack charge with four of the last nine points on a pair of kills and aces to make the final margin 31-29.

Millsaps ran off five straight points in Game 2 to cut the deficit within a point to 27-26 before knotting the game at 29-29 minutes later. The two teams traded points until the scoreboard read 32-31 Loyola and Seals delivered the kill for the 2-0 lead in the match.

The Wolpack pulled away in Game 3 for their largest margin of victory on the night, taking the final game 30-19 to send the Majors to their seventh loss in eight games.

"We were in every game just like we've been all season," third-year head coach Matt Linebarger said. "We are just not able to close out matches once we gain momentum."

Freshmen Kate Hall, Heather Keenan and Victoria Romano led the Majors' attack, hitting .250, .227 and .200 from the floor whereas Keenan led the team with four solo blocks.

In front of her home city of New Orleans, Megan Dufresne picked up a team-high three aces while sophomore Dixie Krauss led the team with 10 digs and freshmen Hailey Miranda and Mallory Clark led the Majors with 16 and 12 assists.

"We developed more over the past week and two two-point losses could have gone the other way," Linebarger said. "The youth are getting more experience that they can use throughout the remainder of the season."

For Loyola, Seals led the Wolfpack with 18 kills while Sarah Howard posted 41 assists and Posey contributed 13 kills and three aces.

The Majors will continue a stretch of 18-straight road games today, facing off with Clearwater Christian at 3 p.m. and Tennessee Temple at 5 p.m. to open the Pensacola Christian Tournament in Pensacola, Fla.
