Utilizing an entire team
effort, the Millsaps volleyball team (3-7, 1-2 SCAC) cruised in
its home opener with a win 3-0 over LeTourneau (30-11, 30-26, 30-10)
at the Hanger Dome Saturday afternoon.
Saturday evening was
a five game thriller, as Millsaps defeated Texas-Tyler (26-30, 32-30,)
. The play of senior middle Jen Pujol and junior opposite/setter
Renee Green was spectacular. Pujol lit it up offensively hitting
.300 and .348 against LeTourneau and Texas-Tyler.
"She has demonstrated
such discipline in her play this year, she becoming a solid middle
for us," said Head Coach Matt Linebarger. Green came up with
two huge solo blocks in game four and five.
"I give our players
a lot of credit tonight after last week's performance because I
don't think we could have played any worse. They didn't execute
on any level of the match so we had a big team discussion to talk
about trust, why we are here and what our goals are. So I give our
kids credit...they responded tonight," said Linebarger.
They played with a lot
of passion and a lot of heart. If they come out and play to that
degree of enthusiasm every night then we will turn our season around
in no time."
Millsaps travels to San
Antonio Thursday to compete in the first SCAC Cross Divisional Tornament.
The first match is scheduled for Friday against Rose-Hulman at 11:00
AM.
