Assistant Professor of Biology

Millsaps College, a highly selective national liberal arts college, invites applications for a tenure-track position in the Department of Biology.

Starting Date: This initial appointment will be at the Assistant Professor level with a starting date of August 2010.

Position Description: We seek a broadly-trained biologist committed to excellence in teaching and research in a liberal arts environment. The successful applicant is expected to teach courses at all levels of the curriculum, including courses in the introductory biology series, human anatomy, human physiology and the area of expertise, and to serve as director of the college pre-medical program. Establishing an active undergraduate research program will be encouraged and supported.

Qualifications: Applications from candidates with expertise in health-related fields will be considered; areas of particular interest include neuroscience, microbiology, epidemiology, physiology, and developmental biology. Ph.D. (completed by August 15, 2010) is required. Institutional support for faculty research includes core laboratory facilities to support research in molecular biology, microbiology and microscopy, start-up funds for laboratory equipment, funds for faculty travel and competitive faculty development grants.
