Founded in 1890, Millsaps College is an independent, national, liberal arts institution affiliated with the United Methodist Church. The Position: The Chaplain, who reports to the Vice President for Student Life, currently oversees the religious life of the College; serves as pastor to students, faculty, and staff; conducts both Christian and interfaith religious services; advises the Campus Ministry Team, comprised of student groups that lead initiatives in worship, fellowship, community service, and campus dialogue; and represents the College to the wider community.
Qualifications: Candidates must have at least the M.Div. degree and be ordained in the United Methodist church. In addition, candidates should have experience in ministry to young people, pastoral care, program development, leading worship, and public speaking.
The Chaplain will be familiar with the joys and challenges of a liberal arts college and will be prepared to play a role in sustaining a vibrant academic community. The Chaplain will join a college community with a long appreciation for the interplay of faith and social justice and will have the vision, commitments, and experience to support and nourish that relationship.
