Campaign Highlights
| Commitment to Student Excellence |
|
The impact of a scholarship isn’t limited to the student who receives it. Millsaps is equipped to shape and encourage the
future leaders of our state, our nation, and the world. Today’s student in need of financial aid may be tomorrow’s global leader;
a scholarship to Millsaps may be the key to unlocking that potential.
While Millsaps is recognized as one of the best values among top colleges nationwide, many deserving students still find the cost of attending Millsaps out of their reach. In our efforts to attract top caliber students, Millsaps competes against other noted public and private colleges and universities, many of which have lower tuitions and larger endowments from which to offer scholarships.
By raising funds for both endowed and annual sponsored scholarships, Millsaps will be able to keep Mississippi’s best and brightest students in state and attract more outstanding students and future leaders from across the nation. |

| Commitment to Faculty Excellence |
|
At Millsaps, faculty are more than teachers. They are mentors. The care for students’ total development, the hours invested outside the classroom in counseling students, the encouragement of alumni after graduation, and the lifelong bond between students and the scholars who teach them reflect the best of a Millsaps education.
To build on its rich legacy of outstanding faculty, the College must increase its ability to attract and retain the highest caliber
of instructors and provide the funds for faculty to make scholarly contributions to their chosen fields of study. |
| |
| Three Endowed Chairs |
$ 3,000,000 ($1,000,000 each)
|
| Endowed chairs will help attract and retain faculty who are nationally recognized as leaders in their fields of study. These exemplary teacher-scholars will help build on the College’s strong tradition of classroom and research excellence and will bring heightened national recognition for Millsaps and its academic programs. |
| |
| Five Endowed Professorships |
$ 2,500,000 ($500,000 each)
|
| Endowed professorships will help encourage and retain faculty who are high performers in the classroom and in their fields
of study. The endowed professorships will recognize faculty who are making significant scholarly contributions to their academic disciplines and are outstanding teachers in the classroom. |
| |
| Endowment for Faculty Development |
|
| Investment in faculty development keeps faculty up to date on developments in their fields and prevents teachers from
becoming stale in the classroom. An endowment for faculty development will support scholarly or artistic projects, travel,
and faculty and curriculum development. |

A Legacy of Transformed Lives
“Like most of the freshmen who entered college in 2000, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with my life. In fact, the only thing I was sure of was that if I hadn’t earned a scholarship, I wouldn’t have been able to enroll at Millsaps,” Kenny Townsend says. “My Millsaps professors and friends encouraged me to think about the world outside the classroom, and what my role in shaping that world might be. In four short years, Millsaps truly changed my life, and none of it would have been possible if I hadn’t been awarded that first scholarship.”
Kenny Townsend is a former Student Body Association President and one of 32 outstanding students nationwide to be named a 2003 Rhodes Scholar. After his time at Oxford University and graduate school, Kenny plans to return to Mississippi to address challenges and opportunities in his home state. Kenny is proof that a scholarship to Millsaps can transform not only a student’s life, but also the world around that student.
