Campaign Highlights
| Commitment to Program Excellence |
$17,000,000 |
| Millsaps College has a long-standing tradition of creating regionally distinctive, nationally competitive programs that set the College apart from ordinary institutions. Major investments are required for the creation of innovative, life-changing programs designed to produce graduates who are leaders in their professions and in their communities. |
| |
| Faith and Work Initiative |
$ 4,000,000 |
| Initially funded by a grant from the Lilly Endowment, the Faith and Work Initiative cultivates passionate, compassionate leaders. Through seminars, courses, and
internships, students explore the meaning and purpose of work and how their values, character, and faith intersect with their potential professions. Students learn to build lives and careers that serve not only their own self-interest, but also the greater good. Endowment support is needed to continue this unique program after the initial funding is expended in 2009. |
| |
| Professional and Pre-Professional Programs |
$ 8,000,000 |
| Millsaps’ professional and pre-professional programs are recognized throughout
the South for their academic quality and are frequently cited by prospective students as academic majors of interest. To enhance its programs in health, undergraduate
and graduate business, law, education, and engineering, the College requires additional funding for curriculum development, state-of-the-art classroom and laboratory technology, faculty and student research, improved library resources, mentoring
and internship opportunities, additional staffing for developing and marketing the programs, and a superior career placement program. |
| |
| Performing and Fine Arts |
$ 3,000,000 |
| A significant number of students participate in the College’s musical and theatrical performances. In addition to benefiting students, Millsaps’ performing and fine arts programs are a magnet attracting the Jackson community to the Millsaps campus, and provide
an important cultural venue for the capital city and the state of Mississippi. Increased endowment support for the performing and fine arts will underwrite off-campus study opportunities for students, expand workshop and guest performance experiences, maintain and update equipment and instruments, and increase community partnerships with local artistic groups. |
| |
| Athletics |
$ 2,000,000 |
Millsaps athletes compete at the Division III level of the NCAA in 14 sports, with
26 percent of the student body competing in intercollegiate sports. As the College
does not offer athletic scholarships, Millsaps scholar-athletes compete purely for the love of the game. New endowment support will cover rising equipment and travel costs and increase funding for women’s and men’s sports. |

A Legacy Wrapped
in Purple and White
Fight, fight, Purple and White!
Give us the victory
Millsaps’ fame her Majors have made.
Never let her glory fade!
Alma Mater to thee
Ever we’ll loyal be.
Let song and cheer
Ring loud and clear
For Millsaps and victory!
The Millsaps Fight Song rang out for the first time on October 29, 1948, during a football game between the Millsaps Majors and the archrival Mississippi College Choctaws.
Millsaps’ Division III scholar-athletes are not offered athletic scholarships and play only for the love of the game, but the College still boasts a strong athletic legacy and a history filled with championships. Most impressive is Millsaps’ student-athlete graduation rate, which is consistently the highest in Mississippi.
The Campaign will provide the facilities needed to help the Majors remain competitive, and ensure that song and cheer continue to ring loud and clear for generations of scholar-athletes and fans to come. |
