Philip Converse, B.A. 1964, has accepted a position as special consultant to the president for institutional advancement.
A fund-raising consultant, attorney, and business owner, Converse has more than 40 years of work experience in the field of philanthropy. He is recognized nationally as a tax expert in charitable estate planning and has helped write and facilitate strategic and capital campaign plans for numerous not-for-profit organizations.
He has worked with hundreds of donors to establish major and planned giving arrangements for his clients, including educational institutions and arts organizations. A published author in fund-raising journals and frequent speaker at regional and national conferences, Converse has received numerous professional awards for his work and service. He has also served as a volunteer on various boards in including civic, educational, and arts oriented boards.
Owner and CEO of The Converse Group that specializes in helping organizations plan, market, manage, and administer major/planned giving programs, Converse and his wife, Cheryl, B.A. 1969, are residents of Memphis.
In his role as a special consultant at Millsaps, Converse will provide support, advice, and guidance to the Institutional Advancement team and will help develop strategies with the major gift officers for their assigned donors. He will support the president in major donor fund-raising and manage a specialized portfolio of major donor prospects. He will also support the Annual Fund team in closing out the fiscal year 2016 campaign and preparing for fiscal year 2017.
Converse’s work began on April 4 and will continue until a new vice president for institutional advancement is appointed. As Converse focuses much of his attention on supporting our major and planned giving staff and efforts, Susan Womack, associate vice president for development operations, will assume additional responsibility in supporting our Alumni and Parents Relations program and our Annual Fund program, in addition to her existing role overseeing advancement services, stewardship, foundation relations, communications, and campaign planning.
