The College's 120th Commencement will take place Friday and Saturday, May 9-10, 2014.
The Last Hurrah! event for graduates will be Thursday, May 8 from 8-10 p.m. at the Old Capitol Inn at 226 N.State St. This meaningful occasion is co-hosted by the Millsaps Alumni Association and the Senior Year Experience Committee. We will have light desserts, punch, coffee, and a cash bar.
The Baccalaureate service begins at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 9, at Christ United Methodist Church, 6000 Old Canton Road in Jackson. For graduates, academic dress (cap and gown) is required. Guest parking, including space for those with special needs, will be available on both sides of the church. Some wheelchairs will be made available as well. The Commencement Ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 10 and is traditionally held in the Bowl, the outdoor area adjacent to the A. Boyd Campbell College Center. See campus map. Our campus safety staff will be at all entrances of the campus to assist you with parking. Chairs will be provided but it is also permissible to bring lawn chairs which can be placed in the few shady areas around the Bowl. Some families with small children like to bring a quilt so they can move away from the crowd and give the children a little more freedom.
Information on parking and seating for those with special needs is available here. If you do not have web access, you may call the Office of Alumni and Parent Relations at 601-974-1038. Golf carts will be available to transport guests with special needs from the parking area to the Bowl.
We suggest you dress for warm weather! The Commencement Ceremony will last about two hours. Coffee, water, and soft drinks will be available for purchase. Restrooms will be available in the Academic Complex where graduates robe and line up prior to the ceremony.
Each graduate will be photographed as he or she receives the diploma by Kim Jurgens of Professional Images Photography. More information about ordering photos and videos is available here. No appointment is necessary. The Office of Alumni and Parent Relations is not directly responsible for photographs.
Parents and graduates will receive a memo that contains important information about caps and gowns, attire for Commencement activities, times for graduates to be in place and Commencement rehearsal. This rehearsal, which takes place Friday, May 9 at 2 p.m. is MANDATORY for all degree candidates (undergraduate and graduate). At 2 p.m., students should report to the Leggett Special Events Center, located inside the A. Boyd Campbell College Center. Following instructions in Leggett, students will begin rehearsal in the Bowl.
