Millsaps Players to Present Neil Simon's Rumors

(02/08/08)

Neil Simon's RumorsGossip, scandal, he said, she said—what is it about rumors that gets people so personally involved in the stories they hear? The Millsaps Players will explore this question when they present Neil Simon’s “Rumors” from Thursday to Sunday, February 21-24. The play will be held in the Christian Center Auditorium on campus at 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are available at the box office one hour prior to each show for $10 general admission and $8 for students and seniors. For more information, call the performing arts office at 601-974-1422.

Jackson-raised guest director Denise Halbach leads the Players in this production, in which a deputy mayor of New York and his wife have invited four couples to their fancy suburban home in celebration of their tenth anniversary. When the first couple arrives, they find the hostess gone and the host lying upstairs with a bullet wound. They try to hide what they fear is a scandal from the second couple, who in turn try to hide it from the third, and so on. The guests find themselves mired in a mad melee of rumor and misunderstanding.

The Millsaps Players are the production arm of the theatre program at Millsaps College. The Players normally produce three full-length plays each academic year at the Christian Center's fully equipped Marion L. Smith Auditorium. They also present several one-act plays directed by senior theatre majors throughout the year.
