The 40th season of the Millsaps Arts & Lecture Series presents lawyer, wine expert and writer John R. Hailman on Tuesday, March 18. His talk, "Thomas Jefferson and the Secrets of the Founding Fathers," will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Ford Academic Complex Recital Hall on campus. Hailman’s recent book "Thomas Jefferson on Wine" examines the founding father’s lifelong interest in wine and provides new insight into his character from this unique perspective. The book is now in its third printing at the University Press of Mississippi.
Educated at Millsaps College, the Sorbonne, Tulane University and the University of Mississippi, Hailman was The Washington Post’s wine columnist for three years and was nationally syndicated by Gannett News Service for more than a decade. He has retired as chief of the criminal division and anti-terrorism coordinator in the Office of the United States Attorney in Oxford and now teaches at Ole Miss. He has also been judge and panel chairman at numerous international wine competitions for more than 20 years.
