Dr. Richard Freis' Libretto Performed at California Benefit Concert

Dr. Richard Freis’ libretto for “From Greater Light”, a cantata composed by Alva Henderson, headlined for a benefit concert for the Village of Hope in Orange County, California. The world premiere was performed by the Pacific Symphony and Chorale on September 13, 2008.  The cantata, whose libretto is based in part on the Book of Job, was commissioned to celebrate the opening of the Village of Hope, a comprehensive residence facility which aids the homeless and their families make a transition into a more stable life. A Jackson resident, Freis is an emeritus professor of classics at Millsaps College.
