Jordy Rourke

Students at Millsaps College have organized three separate events to raise money for the Jordy Rourke Endowed Scholarship Fund, to honor the life of the former Millsaps student who died of a heart attack in the summer of 2008.

A member of the class of 2010, Jordy is remembered by his classmates and friends for his loving, self-giving service to Millsaps students, faculty and staff.

“Jordy’s dedication to service is probably the lasting memory we all have of him,” said junior Michael Mohr. “He was a friend to all he knew, and inspired all of us to give just a little more of ourselves to make this world a better place.”

This past year, Jordy’s family established a scholarship to grant a yearly scholarship to a rising senior who has demonstrated excellent community or Christian service through the Campus Ministry Team.

In March members of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity began a “PUSH” fundraiser. The members pledged to push a noisy, clanking object around campus until their goal of raising $1,500 from the campus community is reached. They are also asking those who make donations to sign a poster that will be given to the Rourke family.

On April 4 and 5 a “Jordament” Ultimate Frisbee Tournament will be hosted by the Frisbee Club. School and club teams from the Jackson area are welcome to participate. The club will sell special Discraft and tournament quality “Jordament” Frisbees.

The Campus Ministry Team is organizing a “Java for Jordy” coffee fundraiser in conjunction with Cups Coffee. Students will sell coffee during exam week, April 26, 27 and 29 from 10 p.m. to midnight at the college library with all profits going to the scholarship fund.

The students hope to raise a minimum of $2,500 for the endowment. For more information about these fundraisers visit http://www.millsaps.edu/jordy/.
