Millsaps College Announces 2008 - 2009 Hall of Fame

Four Millsaps College seniors have earned entry into the college’s Hall of Fame, the highest honor for a graduating senior by the Division of Student Affairs and the Student Body Association, for high scholastic standing, exceptional leadership, superior service and outstanding involvement in campus life.

Katie Collins of Cut Off, La., Philip Cortese of Lafayette, La., Meagan Malone of Hattiesburg and Kayla Ann Richard of Lafayette, La. were inducted into the 2008-2009 Millsaps College Hall of Fame during an April 22 awards ceremony in the Fountain Plaza on campus.

“The Hall of Fame at Millsaps College is a grand tradition,” said Brit Katz, vice president and dean of students. “These four remarkable honorees are an example to future students to seek the highest standards of leadership, involvement, service and scholarship.”

Katie Collins, daughter of Ray and Karen Collins, is English major. During her time at Millsaps, she has been the co-chair for the Campus Ministry Team, president of the Panhellenic council representing Delta Delta Delta fraternity, served as a Ford Teaching Fellow and was elected to membership in Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Kappa.

Philip Cortese, son of Chris and Judy Cortese, is a double major in classical studies and political science with a minor in French. A member of Phi Beta Kappa, Cortese has been involved with numerous campus groups and organizations. During his time at Millsaps, he has served as president of both Omicron Delta Kappa and the Catholic Student Association. He has been a member of the Student Body Association Senate for four years. He is a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and is a presidential ambassador for the Department of Admissions.

Meagan Malone, daughter of Mark and Patricia Malone, is a double major in philosophy and French with a piano concentration. At Millsaps, she has been an active member of the Millsaps Singers and Chamber Singers, involved with several theatre productions, written for the Purple & White college newspaper and served on the Judicial Council and on the executive board of Delta Delta Delta fraternity. Before attending graduate school, Malone plans to spend a year as a teaching assistant in Limoges, France.  

Kayla Ann Richard, daughter of Carl and Betsy Richard, is Spanish major with minors in English and education. While at Millsaps, she has served on the leadership team of the Catholic Student Association, Challenge project leader for the Campus Ministry Team and vice president on the Panhellenic executive council. In August, Richard will move to Georgia to work with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps to work with Spanish-speaking immigrants.
