Millsaps MajorsRetired NFL Quarterback Ken “The Snake” Stabler will speak at the second annual Dinner of Champions to benefit the Millsaps College M-Club on October 12 at 7 p.m. at The Auditorium Restaurant, which is located in Duling School at 622 Duling Avenue in Jackson's Fondren District.

Stabler earned the name “The Snake” while playing high school football in Foley, Alabama. The story goes that during a play, he took the football and weaved downfield the entire length of the field, side to side, and the coach proclaimed, “that boy runs like a snake.”

Stabler was a quarterback at the University of Alabama and played under the guidance of the legendary Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant. He began his NFL career with the Oakland Raiders and played with Hall of Fame players such as Freddie Biletnikoff, Art Shell, Willie Brown and one of the most recognized voices in football, John Madden. He spent his final years in the game with the Houston Oilers and the New Orleans Saints.

Tickets are $100 each, which includes dinner and a chance to win two tickets to the 2010 Sugar Bowl in New Orleans. Sponsorships for the dinner are still available; details on sponsorship levels are available here (PDF).

Proceeds from the dinner will go to the Millsaps M-Club, which raises funds for the athletic teams at Millsaps.

For more information or to reserve a seat or sponsorship table at the dinner, call the Millsaps Athletics Office at 601-974-1190.
