A record-breaking 375 teachers from Mississippi and surrounding states descended upon the Millsaps College campus Sunday, July 8, for a one-week Advanced Placement Institute—the largest event of its kind in the state.
Endorsed by the College Board, the institute is designed for high school teachers who are teaching or planning to teach AP courses. The State Department of Education now requires this training to be completed in order for teachers to be certified to teach AP classes. During the institute, AP workshops were held in the following subjects: biology, calculus (AB), chemistry, economics, English literature and composition, English language and composition, European history, United States history, statistics, physics and United States government and politics.
Two workshops for middle school teachers and vertical team training groups were also offered on the subjects of pre-AP science and pre-AP social studies. The conductors of all workshops are College Board-endorsed consultants.
