Joey and Tracie Langston have established a new scholarship at Millsaps College. The Langston Family Sponsored Scholarship Fund will assist students returning to Millsaps who have increased financial need.
“We are grateful to have the resources to help students whose families have been faced with an unexpected financial crisis, such as a job loss or major health issues,” said Dr. Frances Lucas, president of Millsaps College. “This scholarship will be an important tool in retaining students who might otherwise be forced to end their Millsaps careers.”
Joey Langston, an attorney in Booneville, MS, who has been recognized by numerous publications and organizations as one of the nation’s top trial attorneys, graduated from Millsaps College in 1979. Tracie Langston is a graduate of the University of Mississippi. The Langstons have three sons, Keaton, 22, a senior at Ole Miss; Colby, 20, a sophomore at Millsaps; Kane, 15, in the ninth grade at Booneville High School. Colby Langston is a linebacker on the Majors’ nationally recognized football team.
The Langston family has created The Langston Fund, a charitable organization created to help disadvantaged families with basic life care needs. They also sponsor several scholarships at the University of Mississippi and Northeast Mississippi Community College in Booneville. The Langston Law Firm’s flight department offers the firm’s private jet to arrange “Angel Flights” for patients and families in need of care at medical facilities across the United States.
The Langstons are also “major” supporters of the Millsaps’ football and tennis programs.
The Langston Family Sponsored Scholarship Fund was started with a $100,000 gift that will be funded annually by the family. The Langstons are hopeful that others will support Millsaps and its programs. “‘Of those with many blessings, many blessings are expected’ is a quote that should guide many of Millsaps’ successful graduates,” said Langston. “Our alumni are proud of our school and will certainly answer the call to support the Millsaps agenda,” he added.
“We are educating the next generation of leaders,” said Dr. Lucas, “and the support of alumni and friends, like the Langston family, gives us the resources to attract and retain the best and brightest students from across the country.”
