Millsaps Singers & Japan-America Society of Mississippi: “Iaido: Music & Martial Arts”

7:00 p.m. - Ford Academic Complex Recital Hall
The 77-voice Millsaps Singers choir performs traditional Japanese folk music in conjunction with an exhibition of Japanese sword arts by Sword Masters from Fukuoka, Japan. Special thanks to event sponsors and contributors Little Tokyo, Sakura Bana, Chatan Dojo USA and the Madison County Economic Development Authority.

Departments of Performing Arts & Religious Studies: Dr. Guy Beck, Classical Music of India

7:00 p.m. - Ford Academic Complex Recital Hall
A scholar and musician from Tulane University, Dr. Guy Beck has examined Hindu theology relative to sacred sound, and studied Indic influences on world religious chant and music.  An accomplished pianist and performer of Hindustani vocal classical music, he presents this lecture/demonstration as part of the Indian Culture and Lecture Series.

Incoming freshmen and transfer students audition for scholarships in theatre and music (voice, piano, organ, guitar, orchestral instruments). Mississippi Academy of Ancient Music (MA’AM): Boston Camerata
7:30 p.m. - Ford Academic Complex Recital Hall
America’s preëminent early music ensemble presents an instrumental and vocal performance of Le Roman de Fauvel, based on a 13th century French manuscript satirizing politicians of the time.  Co-sponsored by L’Alliance Francaise of Mississippi and the Southern Arts Federation.

Millsaps Singers at Mississippi Symphony Orchestra: Mahler’s “Resurrection” Symphony

The 75-voice Millsaps Singers choir joins the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra in their season finale featuring choirs, vocal soloists and a full orchestra on stage.
