The English department at Millsaps College seeks a dynamic teacher and scholar to contribute to a growing Communication Studies major. This full-time, tenure-track position will begin Fall 2025 and will carry a teaching load of six (6) courses during the 2025-2026 academic year.
Candidates should be eager and qualified to teach in the Communication Studies major’s core set of courses (including an introductory course and media history) and the major’s media production sequence, which emphasizes visual and written storytelling. Candidates must also be keen to develop new elective courses in their area of active scholarship and/or creative practice, contribute to departmental responsibilities for interdisciplinary general education courses, and seek outside community partnerships as appropriate. They should also be open to collaborating with students on research and/or creative projects. Preference will be given to candidates whose research and/or practice intersects with digital cultures, communities, or identities, and to candidates with experience in media production, but candidates in other areas of communication studies and media studies are encouraged to apply. Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Communication Studies, Media Studies, or related field by the time of appointment; ABD candidates will also be considered.
- Expertise in digital cultures, communities, or identities preferred but not required.
- Experience with media production preferred but not required.
- Coursework in Film Studies preferred but not required.
- Commitment to inclusive pedagogy, diversity and equity.
