The Millsaps Players are the production arm of the theatre program. The Players normally produce three full-length plays each year at the Christian Center's fully equipped Marion L. Smith Auditorium. Theatre students also presents several one-act plays directed by senior theatre majors. Casting for all plays is by audition and is open to all students. Participation in Players productions, either onstage or backstage, earns credit toward membership in Alpha Psi Omega, the national honorary dramatics society. Academic credit is also available.

Senior Directing Project One-Acts:
Some Girl(s) by Neil LaBute & The International Stud by Harvey Fierstein

Friday-Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday at 2:00 p.m. – Academic Complex Recital Hall

Student JR Braun directs Some Girl(s) by Neil LaBute. Set in three different hotel rooms, the play follows a soon-to-be-engaged man as he pays a last visit to three ex-girlfriends before taking the plunge. Student Casey Philips directs The International Stud by Harvey Fierstein. Arnold, a drag queen working in New York, while searching for love encounters many twists and turns along the journey.
Cost: $5 general admission
Tickets available in the AC 2nd floor foyer one hour prior to each show.

Auditions: Children’s Roles for “The Sound of Music”

The Millsaps Players are auditioning children between the ages of five and 16 to fill roles for the Players production of "The Sound of Music" scheduled for performance February 19-22, 2009. Contact Jeannie-Marie Brown, 601-974-1320, or the Performing Arts Office, 601-974-1422.

Puppet Arts Theatre Production: Peter and the Wolf and The Nutcracker Sweets
Peter & the Wolf9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. each day - Christian Center Auditorium (Please use West Street campus entrance.)
Life-size puppets designed by Jarmila Zapletal and animated objects interact on stage with a real-life narrator to create the feel of a big screen cartoon in a whirlwind of colors in this children’s favorite directed by Peter Zapletal.  Presented by the Mississippi Puppetry Guild in cooperation with Millsaps College Department of Performing Arts.  See www.mspuppetry.com.
Admission: $6 general admission; $5 per person for group of ten (one free adult admission with each group of ten children.)

Workshop: Suzuki Acting with Ava Geffen

11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
HAC Movement Studio
Ava Haddad Geffen is a director, actor and teacher living in New York City. She is a member of AFTRA (American Federation of Television & Radio Artists), AEA (Actor’s Equity Association) and SAG (Screen Actors Guild). Her work as an actor includes a long list in theatre, television and film. Directing credits include The Servant of Two Masters, The House of Bernarda Alba, Spain, and The Laramie Project among others. As an educator Ms. Geffen has taught for over ten years and is currently a teaching fellow at City University of New York, Brooklyn College. She holds a BA in Theatre Arts from State University of New York at Empire State College, an MA in Educational Theatre from New York University and is a candidate for an MFA in Directing at CUNY Brooklyn College. Ms. Geffen has trained in the Suzuki method of actor training for several years and is thrilled to share her talents with Millsaps College.

A philosophical and theatrical evening of shorts by Samuel Beckett. Pieces include Rough for Theatre I, Ohio Impromptu, Play, Not I and Breath.
