The Compass Curriculum is the foundation of the Millsaps learning experience and provides all first-year students with the tools to find their best path to graduation — and beyond!

The Compass Curriculum promotes thinking and reasoning in two ways: development in three core skill sets and explorations of academics beyond the typical “major.”

From your first day on campus as a student, the Pathways program guides you through a four-year exploration of academic interests, professional curiosity and experiences.

Pathways offers six specialized tracks. Choose from any track and switch tracks as you grow. You do not have to choose a path that necessarily aligns with your area of study.

Community Engaged Learning (CEL) is an academic program at Millsaps College that enables students to partner traditional classroom content with practical application in the community. Through mutually beneficial partnerships within the Jackson metropolitan community, students cultivate their identity as lifelong learners and active citizens.

Does Millsaps College have a pre-med program?

Yes — Millsaps has a Pre-Health track for students pursuing medical, dental, and veterinary school. A unique partnership with William Carey University School of Osteopathic Medicine offers guaranteed admission to up to 10 qualifying Millsaps graduates per year, requiring a 3.25 cumulative and science GPA with no grade below C. MCAT preparation and pre-health committee letters are available.

What research opportunities exist at Millsaps College?

Millsaps students have access to undergraduate research across sciences, social sciences, and humanities. Research can fulfill the required Major Experience graduation component. Faculty conduct research alongside students — there are no graduate students competing for research opportunities. Programs like the Ford Fellowship and Gulf Scholars Program support advanced research. Contact individual departments for lab openings.
