Welcome Week — August 12 – 18
Millsaps’ Welcome Week is the official welcome for all new students, including freshmen and transfers! This exciting event is designed to help you transition to campus before classes begin.
Pathways & Major Experience
We set you up to succeed in your first year by providing Introduction to Pathways and the Major Experience. Introduction to Pathways is the course component of the first-year experience, and the Major Experience will give you hands-on, out-of-the-classroom learning opportunities.

New Student Orientation
You and your families are invited to a one-day summer orientation session. This event jumpstarts your college experience and provides useful information to prepare for Welcome Week in August.
Activities and sessions will include a campus resource fair, group activities to help you get to know your new classmates, and opportunities to learn more about living on campus and getting involved in student activities.
Parents and families are invited to attend many of these sessions, and there will also be panels specifically for parents and families to answer their questions and welcome them to the Millsaps community.

Welcome Week
Welcome Week is your official welcome to campus! This week, August 12 through 18 will be full of exciting events is designed to help you transition to campus before classes begin.
You’ll learn about Millsaps spirit and traditions, campus life and student resources. You’ll meet new friends, make connections with faculty and staff, and engage with campus resources.
We’ve planned activities built around our Millsaps virtues of Integrity, Service, Empathy, Joy and Justice.
First Year Traditions
First Friday and Convocation are two traditions you will enjoy. Dive deeper into these and other Millsaps traditions.
The First Friday ceremony serves as the official welcome to the Millsaps College community. The Student Body Association president leads the ceremony. You will recite the Major Call, pledge support for the Millsaps conduct code and accept the call to exemplify and uphold our college’s five virtues: Integrity, Service, Empathy, Joy and Justice.
Academic Convocation marks the beginning of a new academic year and commemorates our incoming class of students. During this ceremony, students hear from the faculty member who receives the Most Distinguished Professor award and sign the student honor code.
Pathways & Major Experience
The Introduction to Pathways course provides more tailored guidance and support. The course culminates with you choosing a Pathway that will provide you with a career-focused learning community to guide your curiosity and inform decisions around life planning.
Major Experience gets you out of the classroom and allows you to apply the skills and knowledge gained to new environments. You will complete an experiential learning opportunity and can complete this through a variety of experiences, such as internships, faculty-led research, student leadership, study abroad and more!
