Economics studies the interaction between individuals, businesses and government and how their decisions impact personal well-being as well as society. Our curriculum goes beyond theory, providing students with practical skills to apply their knowledge in real-world scenarios. All economics majors take the economics core and then choose one of three tracks — business, quantitative or policy.

ECON 3120 Labor Economics

Examine the organization, function and outcomes of labor markets.Topics include wage determination, labor market discrimination, the economic impact of unions, compensation and incentives of workers, and the effects of regulations.

ECON 3130 The Business of Sports

ECON 3130 explores the business of sports. Topics may include issues pertaining to stadium site selection and financing, the relationship between team and municipality, legal aspects of sports business, or other issues related to sports and society.

Our distinctive strengths

Millsaps economics majors develop the analytical tools that empower them to answer questions such as: How do the social networks of firm leadership impact firm performance? To what extent and how do innovative companies like Google and Tesla disrupt traditional automotive giants? How do advances in technology, such as artificial intelligence, shape the future of the labor market?

All Else School of Management at Millsaps College major programs are accredited by AACSB International.
An MBA may be completed in one year beyond the bachelor’s degree. This program is for students who complete the Major Plus program.
All economics majors take the economics core, consisting of 24 credit hours, and then choose one of three tracks (business, quantitative or policy) for an additional 16 credit hours.
