I grew up in Canada, where I played hockey and enjoyed pancakes with maple syrup, just like any good Canadian boy. Wanting to learn more about my heritage, I spent some time studying in Japan. Upon my return, I worked at my family’s furniture and appliance store for a while. Deciding to pursue higher education, I moved to the South, where my wife’s family is from. I took some chemistry classes and ended up earning a Ph.D. in protein chemistry.
