We are excited to spotlight Michael Abramovich, a proud graduate of Millsaps College’s Class of 2013. Michael’s journey at Millsaps was one of growth, opportunity and a strong sense of community that has shaped his career today.
During his time at here, Michael was drawn to the intimate class sizes and the close-knit environment, which allowed for a more personalized learning experience. Inspired by the stories of those around him, including family and friends who had experienced the power of small classes, he knew Millsaps was the right fit. He pursued his undergraduate degree at the Else School of Management, majoring in business administration with a concentration in communications, focusing on entrepreneurship. Later, Michael returned to Millsaps to complete his MBA, solidifying his business expertise.
Michael’s involvement at Millsaps extended far beyond the classroom. He was an active member of Pi Kappa Alpha and took on leadership roles as one of the MIBS, helping international students integrate into campus life and navigate cultural differences. His commitment to leadership development extended to his work as a facilitator, summer conferences and camps assistant, and student life intern at Millsaps. These experiences equipped him with the leadership and communication skills that are invaluable in his current role.
One of the highlights of his time at Millsaps was the entrepreneurship concentration, where he developed and presented a strategic business plan for Coffee Prose, a project that emphasized the importance of innovation and strategic thinking. These experiences helped him learn to brainstorm ideas and work with diverse teams—skills that continue to serve him well today.
After graduation, Michael gained practical experience working as a customer service representative at Jane Shelton Inc., before transitioning to his current role as a financial analyst at Atmos Energy. His educational background in business, along with the leadership and financial analysis skills he honed at Millsaps, have proven essential to his success in the corporate world.
In his career, Michael’s financial expertise and knowledge of cost analysis have been crucial in his day-to-day responsibilities. Leadership courses at Millsaps taught him how to communicate effectively with both vendors and customers, equipping him with the ability to approach problems from different angles—skills that continue to benefit him in his current role.
Michael advises current and recent graduates to get involved in various activities and organizations, particularly in leadership positions, to better understand themselves and grow professionally. He emphasizes the importance of internships and job shadowing as a way to explore different career paths and make informed decisions about one’s future.
As a firm believer in the power of networking, Michael credits LinkedIn and the Millsaps alumni network for connecting him with professional opportunities and mentors. He encourages students to tap into these resources, as they can be instrumental in career growth.
Reflecting on how Millsaps prepared him for the challenges in his industry, Michael appreciates the emphasis on broadening his perspective, thinking outside the box and approaching problems from unique angles—traits that have become invaluable in his work at Atmos Energy.
Michael remains deeply connected to the Millsaps alumni network, regularly reaching out to fellow graduates for advice, guidance and collaboration. His pride in his alma mater runs deep, and he believes that the education he received at Millsaps has been fundamental to his success.
