Nearly 40 years ago, Glenn Terry graduated from Millsaps College with a degree in accounting. This year, he’s back on campus to earn another degree as he pursues his master’s in accountancy and prepares for a second career.

“After completing my career in public accounting, I am beginning my next career building a portfolio of director positions as a professional board member and teaching at the university level,” said Terry. “Obtaining my master’s degree is my first step in pursuing university level teaching opportunities.”

Terry graduated in May 1982, completed the CPA exam and began his career with Ernst & Young LLP. Over his career at EY, he worked with clients throughout the United States as well as in Europe, Australia, Latin America and Asia, including China. His success in these markets can be traced back to what he noted as his most impactful Millsaps moment, which involved studying international business at the University of London.

His client list is extensive and impressive, including Clear Channel Communications, Live Nation, Chipotle, and General Motors. Terry is also a passionate sports fan, and over the years his clients have included numerous NFL, NBA, and MLB organizations. In addition to serving clients, Glenn held several leadership positions at EY, including the Global Automotive Retail Leader and EY’s America’s Learning and Development Leader.

He credits Dr. Jerry Whitt, dean of the Else School of Management from 1980 to 1993, as a favorite professor and driving influence.

“Dr. Whitt not only helped me shape a vision for an international business career,” recalls Terry, “but convinced me such was possible.”

Growing up in Jackson, Terry was attracted to Millsaps by the high academic standards, its location close to home, and the opportunity to study abroad. Now living in The Woodlands, just north of Houston, Texas, Terry is still attracted by the high academic standards found at Millsaps.

“My experiences at Millsaps as an undergraduate established the foundation for my public accounting career,” Terry said. “My public accounting career far exceeded my expectations and I am convinced the skills and experiences at Millsaps (both from the business school and from the liberal arts influences) were key to my successful public accounting career. As a result, I could think of no better place to prepare for my next career.”
