Caroline Bayne

Assistant Professor of Communication Studies
Director of Film Studies

I am an assistant professor in Communication Studies and the director of the Film Studies minor at Millsaps College. I work across the fields of media history, television studies, southern studies, and cultural studies, with a focus on southern media history in states like Georgia, South Carolina, and Mississippi. I currently serve as the managing editor of Television and New Media and as a Peabody Awards screening committee member.

My current project explores television’s long relationship with women, spanning from the mid-twentieth century to the present, and seeks to understand how television continues to accompany women’s domestic labor as both a companion and a pedagogical tool.

I am also currently in the process of turning my dissertation, “Bless Her Hearth: Domestic Advice Media in the American South,” into my first book project.
