I studied biology and Russian at Illinois Wesleyan University, where I developed my appreciation for the liberal arts model of undergraduate education. My graduate work was completed at Loyola University Chicago, where I studied bacterial symbiosis. During my postdoctoral work at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, I began researching in my current interest area, studying the bacterial genes necessary for both mutualistic and pathogenic host association. I enjoy bringing my passion for microbiology, immunology and genetics to my students in both class and laboratory settings.
