I was born in San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora, México, and moved to the United States when I was 13. I joined the Millsaps faculty in 2008. I love theater and the arts, and I was a member of the Tonatiuh Folkloric dance group and the Borderlands Theater. My theater background infuses my classes, where my students are often on their feet participating in games and competitions. We create skits, perform poems, dialogues and plays, or we make documentaries about cities, historical events or festivals.
I coordinate conversations between Millsaps students and students from the Marista University in Mérida to make language learning more meaningful. I often lead the summer study abroad programs in Spain and México.
