I am a philosopher and ethicist who specializes in moral psychology and applied ethics. I have a B.A. from the University of Mississippi in psychology, worked in laboratory neuroscience research for a few years at a major medical school and a primate research center. I received my Ph.D. in philosophy from Washington University in St. Louis, and currently have appointments as the Jennie Carlisle Golding Chair of Philosophy at Millsaps College and as professor of psychiatry and human behavior at UMMC, where I am also a principal staff member of the Center for Bioethics and Medical Humanities. I have published numerous articles on biomedical ethics, science and technology studies, gender studies, and religious studies.I have also edited two books on applied ethics: “Sexual Ethics: An Anthology” (Blackwell-Wiley, 2023) and “Sex/Machine: Readings in Culture, Gender, and Technology” (Indiana University Press, 1999).
