I research the intersections of environment, technology and imperialism in modern world history. I’ve written books about guns in Southern Africa and sugar cane farming in Mauritius. Additionally, I’ve authored a general history of the First World War and a popular guide to writing about history. Currently, I’m working on a book titled “The Vision of Cecil Rhodes: Building White Power in Africa.”
