“Working together works.”

That’s how Jeff Good describes the partnership between himself and fellow Millsaps alumnus Richard Schwartz. The two are teaming up along with other Jackson-area restaurants to provide weekend meals to healthcare workers at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC).

Good, a 1986 graduate of Millsaps, is co-owner of Mangia Bene, a Jackson-based restaurant group that includes BRAVO!, Broad Street Bakery & Café, and Sal & Mookie’s New York Pizza and Ice Cream Joint. Schwartz graduated from Millsaps in 1978 and is well-known around the state and beyond as a personal injury attorney. Both Good and Schwartz are known as active community supporters.

Schwartz stressed the importance of supporting the community during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Our medical professionals are heroes—we are at war and we want to support and protect them,” he said. “We also need to support our local businesses as well. If you’re hungry, think local.”

Schwartz’s comments were met with praise by Good, who noted how the benefits of the partnership extend beyond UMMC.

“Richard’s gift of this business at retail prices is lifesaving, and the audience to whom it’s going is a blessing for all of us,” Good said.

Schwartz is paying for box lunches provided by Broad Street Bakery & Café, Pig & Pint, and Pizza Shack.

In addition to the gift from Schwartz, Good said that his websites will soon provide patrons who order meals online with an option of making a donation to feed healthcare workers. Menus for Good’s restaurants are available at www.bravobuzz.com, www.broadstbakery.com, and www.salandmookies.com.
