For Gifts of Stock
Appreciated stocks and securities are good assets to use when making a charitable gift in that they provide tax benefits that are not available from cash gifts. You will be entitled to a charitable tax deduction for the average of the high and low stock prices on the date of the gift, regardless of the amount that you paid for the stock. In addition, you will not pay capital gains tax on the stock that you would have been required to pay if you liquidated the stock.
