Employee Benefits

Millsaps College provides a comprehensive benefits package for its faculty and staff. Below is a brief description of each benefit available at the college. Except where noted, the benefits described are available to full-time faculty and staff. Benefits are subject to change.

Electing Benefits

New benefits-eligible employees have 30 days to elect their benefits. All other employees may make changes to their benefits annually during open enrollment or within 30 days of experiencing a Qualifying Life Event (QLE).

Employee Assistance Program

This program provides you with services to help with the everyday challenges of life that may affect your health, family life and desire to excel at work.

Medical Insurance

Millsaps College participates in a self-funded medical insurance program administered by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi (BCBSMS). We offer a traditional PPO plan and a high-deductible plan. With the traditional PPO you pay a co-pay up to the point you reach the deductible. With a high-deductible plan the monthly insurance premium is lower, but you pay the full cost for your medical expenses until you reach the deductible.

Employees who enroll in either Millsaps medical plan may also enroll for free in our HealthiestYou program which allows you and members of your family access to telehealth visits.

With HealthiestYou you can connect to a doctor, get treatment and get prescriptions, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, over the phone or via the mobile app. Using HealthiestYou can save tons of money and no more sitting around in germ-infested waiting rooms.

Dental & Vision Insurance

Millsaps offers dental and vision insurance through Beam Benefits. You can find a dental or vision provider or log in to your Beam account directly through the Beam Benefits website. In Mississippi, the Beam dental insurance operates through a number of other networks. The names of the local dental networks can be found on your dental insurance card. If you need a copy of your card you may obtain one by logging in to the Beam portal. Beam vision insurance utilizes the VSP network.

Flexible Spending Accounts

Through a Flexible Spending Account (FSA), you are able to set aside money, before it is taxed, in order to pay for eligible out-of-pocket costs for dependent and health care expenses. Our plan administrator is Southern Administrator and Benefit Consultants (SABC).

Short- and Long-Term Disability Insurance

Short-term Disability The college recognizes that certain medical circumstances—e.g., illness, injury, pregnancy, and other related conditions—may require a person to be away from work for an extended period of time. In addition to regular paid time off benefits, Millsaps offers short-term medical leave pay to full-time benefit-eligible employees who have completed two or more years of continuous service. For more details, see our Millsaps College Benefits Guide.

Long-term Disability (LTD) insurance helps replace a portion of your income for an extended period of time in the event of a disability. The college enrolls all benefits-eligible full-time employees in the LTD insurance plan. This coverage is a no-cost benefit for our employees and coverage begins on the first day of the first full month of employment. LTD insurance is administered by The Hartford. If your claim is accepted, LTD benefits will replace a portion of your pre-disability monthly earnings, less other income you may receive from other sources during the same disability (e.g., Social Security, Workers’ Compensation, vacation pay, etc.). Our current plan pays up to 60% of your pre-disability monthly earnings.

Life Insurance

The college provides basic group term life insurance coverage equal to the employee’s basic annual salary rounded to the nearest thousand. This coverage is a no-cost benefit for our benefits-eligible full-time and part-time employees. Coverage begins on the first day of the first full month of employment. For more details, see our Millsaps College Benefits Guide.

Retirement Benefits

Millsaps College offers all employees access to contribute to defined contribution plan that operates under Section 403(b) of the Internal Revenue Code and is serviced by the Teachers Insurance and Annuities Association (TIAA). For more details, see our Millsaps College Benefits Guide.
