Here is a sampling of a few courses that might pique your interest.

CRWT 2400 Intro to Creative Writing

Study the forms, techniques and processes of fiction, poetry or script writing by reading models and practicing their own writing. Students discuss their own writing in the context of readings from traditional and contemporary works.

CRWT 3760 Fiction Into Film

In this class you will write short stories, turn them into screenplays and use those screenplays as the foundation for an original short movie. Examine how others have created, molded and transformed literature into film.

Majors have undertaken novels and short story collections as participants in the Honors Program.
Courses in the workshop model build communities of writers that students can draw on for a lifetime of writing support.
Through the Digital Welty Research Lab, students can learn humanities coding and web design skills, which can help them tailor their creative interests to today’s technological world.

Gain hands-on experience

Millsaps students majoring in creative writing have had internships with the University Press of Mississippi, the Mississippi Museum of Art, the Eudora Welty House and Garden, the McMullan Young Writers Workshop, the Medgar and Myrlie Evers Institute, the Mississippi Arts+ Entertainment Museum, the Mississippi Braves, and the Digital Welty Lab.
