Through a new agreement, Jackson Public Schools scholars will now be able to attend Millsaps College with at least half of their tuition covered. A recently signed memorandum of understanding allows eligible JPS scholars to pursue a nationally recognized college education right here in Jackson.
Under the agreement, Millsaps offers a renewable undergraduate scholarship covering at least 50% of tuition to JPS scholars who meet the college’s standard admissions requirements. The scholarships may be renewed for up to four years, offering scholars a clear, predictable path from high school to college completion while encouraging them to pursue their education locally.
“Mississippi’s future depends on our ability to educate, retain and empower homegrown talent,” Frank Neville, Millsaps College president, said. “This partnership creates a clear pathway for Jackson students and families to see a future for themselves right here, earning a rigorous education, building meaningful careers and contributing to their communities across the state.”
The agreement is designed to benefit not only scholars, but also the educators and families who support them. Dependents of full‑time Jackson Public Schools faculty and staff are also eligible for the undergraduate tuition scholarship, recognizing the essential role school employees play in strengthening the community and supporting families committed to Jackson’s long‑term success.
In addition, full‑time JPS employees, parents of current JPS scholars and JPS alumni may receive a ten-percent tuition discount on select graduate programs offered through the Else School of Management at Millsaps.
“The Jackson Public Schools vision is to prepare scholars to achieve globally, to contribute locally and to be fulfilled individually,” said Dr. Errick L. Greene, superintendent of Jackson Public Schools. “This partnership with Millsaps College will help bring that vision to life. We’re increasing the number and variety of career pathways, and we appreciate partners like Millsaps who help scholars live their wildest dreams and reach their full potential.”
The partnership aligns with Millsap’s broader strategy to invest in Mississippi students through initiatives such as the Millsaps Advantage Scholarship, a full‑tuition and fees program for high‑achieving students from across the state.
Together, these efforts reflect a shared belief that Mississippi’s students, regardless of background, deserve strong incentives to pursue higher education in‑state and apply their skills, leadership and expertise within Mississippi communities after graduation.
Together, Millsaps and Jackson Public Schools view the initiative as part of a long‑term talent and workforce pipeline, one that begins in Jackson classrooms and extends through college graduation and into the professional world.
The agreement allows Millsaps to engage directly with JPS scholars and educators through outreach and on‑campus visits, helping them understand their academic options early and plan for careers that contribute to the region’s economic and civic vitality.
The memorandum of understanding will remain in effect for five years and may be used by both institutions in recruitment and outreach efforts, underscoring a shared commitment to talent development, educational opportunity and Mississippi’s future.
