"This program opens the door for high-achieving undergraduates to pursue a law degree more efficiently without sacrificing academic rigor."

Millsaps College students can now earn both a bachelor’s degree and a law degree in just six years, one year faster than the traditional route, thanks to a new partnership with the University of Mississippi School of Law.

The two institutions recently signed a memorandum of understanding creating the Pathway to Law School initiative, anchored by a 3+3 Accelerated Law Degree Program. This innovative program streamlines the academic journey for students who want to pursue a legal career.

Under the agreement, Millsaps students who complete a specific curriculum of undergraduate coursework can apply to and attend Ole Miss Law. After successfully finishing their first year of law school, Millsaps will count those credits and award the student their bachelor’s degree, paving the way to a J.D. completion in record time.

“We are thrilled to partner Ole Miss to train the next generation of professionals,” said Frank Neville, president of Millsaps College. “This partnership reflects our commitment to creating innovative academic pathways that prepare Millsaps students for leadership and service. By establishing a faster, more affordable path to earning both a bachelor’s and a law degree, we’re giving our students a head start on their careers.”

“We are proud to partner with Millsaps College to create an accelerated path for some of Mississippi’s most talented students,” said Frederick G. Slabach, dean and professor of law at the University of Mississippi. “This program opens the door for high-achieving undergraduates to pursue a law degree more efficiently without sacrificing academic rigor or the rich experiences that both institutions provide.”

The agreement also includes application fee waivers, a CAS Report waiver and plans for a jointly produced lecture series featuring distinguished legal scholars and alumni on the Millsaps campus. These events will explore pressing legal issues and foster dialogue between law and liberal arts disciplines.

“This collaboration is a reflection of what becomes possible when institutions work together with students at the center,” said Joshua Quinn Tucker, assistant dean for enrollment management, access, opportunity & engagement at the University of Mississippi. “We are excited for the momentum this program brings and the future classes of Millsaps graduates who will make meaningful contributions to the legal field.”

The memorandum of understanding will remain in effect for five years and underscores both institutions’ commitment to promoting access, excellence and cultural engagement in legal education.
