Millsaps College is pleased to announce that Professor Eric Charlton has been selected as a 2026-27 Nielsen Center Fellow, a prestigious national fellowship awarded by the Nielsen Center for the Liberal Arts at Eckerd College.
Nielsen Fellows are chosen for their demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence and their potential to contribute meaningfully to national conversations about the liberal arts.
Through this program, Professor Charlton will engage with teaching leaders across disciplines, bringing back innovative approaches that strengthen Millsaps’ continued focus on transformative, student-centered learning.
“I’m honored to be selected as a Nielsen Center Fellow. I look forward to engaging with colleagues from across the country and examining what excellent teaching looks like in today’s environment,” Charlton said. “I’m grateful for the support from Millsaps and excited to bring new ideas, energy and approaches back to the classroom.”
Founded in 2021, the Nielsen Center supports and develops outstanding early-career faculty at liberal arts colleges across the United States. The Center fosters sustained, small-group conversations among faculty and provides a retreat-style environment designed to strengthen liberal arts teaching and learning.
As part of the yearlong fellowship, Charlton will join a group of educators from across the country for three intensive, in-person workshop gatherings held on Eckerd College’s campus on Florida’s Gulf Coast.
These seminar-based workshops explore teaching identity, pedagogical practices, and student learning in the liberal arts tradition.
“Professor Charlton’s selection reflects both his exceptional promise as an educator and the high caliber of our faculty at Millsaps,” said Daniel Jasper, Millsaps College provost. “This fellowship will enhance not only his own teaching but also the student experience across our campus.”
Professor Charlton will begin his fellowship in June 2026
