2026 Millsaps Art Competition

The competition is open to the following groups:

6th – 8th graders – Middle School

9th – 12th graders – High School

Artwork accepted: Paintings, drawings, photographs, printmaking prints, ceramics, sculptures, mixed media, fabric art and digital/computer. All artwork, including any digital/computer-generated work, must be printed, labeled and ready to install/display.

• No entry fee: There is no fee to enter. 

• No more than 3 entries per student and each entry must be completed on a separate entry form.
  
  

• Step 1: Entry Form & digital photo of artwork: All entrants must submit their entry form by 5:00 p.m. on March 4, 2026. In addition, all entry forms must be accompanied by a high-resolution, digital photo of the work being submitted. Entries with incomplete forms and missing photos will not be considered. Photos must be taken of the entire entry in good light. Quality photos will help our judges make the best selection. Photos can be uploaded within the entry form. File formats accepted are pdf, jpg, jpeg and png. File size may not exceed 10mb. Only one photo per entry.

• Step 2: Exhibit Selection: All entry forms and photos will be evaluated. Entrants will be notified if they have been accepted into the exhibit by March 6.

• Step 3: If your work is accepted, you will be responsible for ensuring your artwork arrives by 4:00 p.m., March 17, 2026. Artwork should be hand-delivered. Late artwork will not be accepted.

• Ready to Display: Millsaps College will not hang any artwork that is not properly matted, mounted or framed. Entry labels must be firmly attached, and artwork must be ready to hang using wire, twine or cord. If the work is not gallery-ready or does not exhibit good craftsmanship, it may be omitted from the exhibition.

• Labeling: All submitted entries must have labels secured to the lower right-hand corner on the BACK of two-dimensional work and securely attach the entry label to three-dimensional work. The label must include the artist’s name, grade, teacher and school.

• All work must be original but may have been created at any time. No master copies will be accepted, and no work done from kits or molds.

• Size Limitations: Two-dimensional art must not exceed 48 inches in any dimension. Three-dimensional art cannot exceed 50 pounds in weight or 60 inches in any dimension. Fiber art entries must not exceed 80″ in either direction.

• Millsaps reserves the right to not exhibit any work deemed unsuitable for public viewing.

• All work must hang for the duration of the exhibition which ends after the reception on March 26th. Entrants must take their works home with them after the awards show.

• Return of Artwork: Artists are responsible for picking up their artwork at the conclusion of the March 26th awards ceremony.

• Liability – The staff of Millsaps College will handle all work with care. However, we will not be responsible for accidental damage, breakage, theft or vandalism which might occur.

• Jurors: The jurors for the competition will be comprised of a mixture of college faculty, Millsaps art students, staff, alumni and guest jurors.

Millsaps College and gallery committee reserve the right to remove any artwork that is deemed improperly presented, unsafe, damaged or fails to meet the size limitations and framing or hanging standards. If your work utilizes AI, please provide a brief written description of how you are engaging with AI in your practice as a material or concept. Only works that are transformative and thoughtfully engage the technology will be considered. Digital works that utilize AI must be cited in the material description of the work.

Participation in the exhibition constitutes an agreement on the part of the entrant to all conditions set forth in this prospectus. Millsaps College reserves the right to reproduce any work in the exhibition for publicity purposes.
