Fourteen executives and managers, representing a range of professions from landscape architecture to insurance to ministry, are nearing the halfway point in the 2019 class of the Advance Applied Leadership Program (AALP) offered through the Else School of Management at Millsaps College. This is the second class of the AALP, which graduated 11 individuals from the inaugural class in December 2018.
The AALP is designed to help aspiring mid-level and senior executives make the transition from functional leadership to effective, big picture, executive leadership. Classes cover important business-related topics including strategic leadership, high impact communications, critical thinking and decision making, productive conflict, and cross-functional collaboration.
Participants also select from two of five elective courses offered through the program, including building and leading teams, developing staff, presentation skills, negotiating, and relationship building.
This year’s class launched with an orientation for participants in March, followed by a two-day leadership retreat in April. Sessions will continue on a monthly basis through October.
“The AALP provides current business leaders with enhanced critical thinking and leadership skills that will prepare them to assume greater strategic responsibility in their respective organizations,” said LeAnne Brewer, director of executive education with the Else School.
