Student Emergency Support

Overview

The Millsaps College Lucile and Bill Hicks Opportunity Fund provides financial support to students facing unexpected financial hardships that may impact their ability to continue their education. The grant is intended to cover urgent, one-time expenses such as medical bills, transportation, or other emergencies.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the emergency grant, students must meet the following requirements:

Enrollment Status: Must be currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at the college.
Financial Need: Must demonstrate an immediate financial hardship due to an unexpected event.
Good Standing: Must be in good academic standing with the institution. Must also be in good behavioral standing.
Citizenship/Residency: Open to U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and eligible international students.
Not Receiving Duplicate Assistance: Cannot receive additional emergency assistance for the same situation from other institutional sources. All other resources must have been considered and are insufficient, unavailable or not available in a timely manner.

Qualifying Emergencies

Eligible expenses may include but are not limited to:

Emergency medical or dental expenses not covered by insurance
Food insecurity
Transportation issues
Essential technology needs
Travel needs due to serious illness or death in the immediate family
Other emergency expenses affecting a student’s ability to remain enrolled

Non-Qualifying Emergencies

Tuition, fees, health insurance and study abroad costs
Non-essential personal bills such as credit card or cell phone bills
Parking tickets or other expenses mistakenly incurred
Replacement of lost or stolen items

Application Process

Students must complete the following steps to apply:

Submit an Online Application.
Provide Supporting Documentation.
Meet with a Financial Aid Advisor (if required).
