Job Summary
The Assistant Football Coach supports all aspects of the Millsaps Football program. The major area of responsibility includes recruitment of student athletes and supporting the head coach in planning and executing practice and game plans. This position reports directly to the Head Football Coach.
This is an on-site position in Jackson, MS with regular daily office hours and requires regular evening and weekend work and travel. Compensation for this position includes on campus housing and meals.
Job Duties
- Recruit and evaluate high school and college student athletes in accordance with college admission and NCAA Division III guidelines
- Comprehend and practice the NCAA Division III philosophy emphasizing quality educational experience and academic success
- Assist in the planning of and preparation for team practice sessions
- Assist with the coordination of team travel and logistics, including vehicles, lodging, and meals
- Plan visit days for prospective students
- Monitoring student athlete academic progress by student athletes involving grade reports, study skill development, and counseling
- Assist with field maintenance and upkeep
- Game preparation and field set up
- Assist in scouting opponents
- Assist with team fundraising programs to augment operations budget
- Manage team social media account in conjunction with the Sports information team
- Comply with all NCAA Division III, Southern Athletics Association (SAA), and Millsaps College guidelines
- Accept game-day administrator obligations each semester, if necessary
- Participate in various other areas of interest for the College, Student Life, and Athletics
- Other duties as assigned by the Football Coach or the Director of Athletics
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in physical education, kinesiology or a relevant field, or an equivalent mix of education and experience; Master’s Degree preferred
- Minimum 5 years successful college/high school coaching experience; Division III experience preferred
- College and/or professional participation experience preferred
- CPR/AED certification or the ability to obtain within 3 months of employment required
- Proven ability to promote a positive team environment and cultivate good morale
- Highly organized, creative problem-solver who takes initiative
- Proficient in Microsoft Office tools. Ability to quickly learn new technologies and adapt to varying technological environments
- Able to work in team environments and individually
- Must have a valid U.S. driver’s license
Physical & Availability Requirements
- Ability to work long hours, nights and weekends while in season and as needed for recruiting
- Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds without assistance
- Must be able to traverse college campus and climb stairs
- Occasional stooping, bending, lifting and reaching are required
- Manual dexterity needed for demonstrating proper form and technique, participating in team practices and other repetitive tasks
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
